My Gas Oven wont work, the broiler works and the “Clean” option works???? Not getting gas to the burner?
My gas oven at home is not getting gas to the burner, the element glows, and glows, and glows but the gas never comes. The broiler works fine. The “Clean” option works fine too, which delivers gas to the bottom burner. Could this be an electrical issue? If i run it on clean mode i will let it get good and hot then shut off the clean mode and turn on the bake mode, thats when the gas shuts off???
Here’s what’s probably going on:
Gas ovens have pilot lights. It’s a very very small flame that is always burning, and it’s used to light the main fire when you turn the stove on.
However, there is a safety device on these pilot lights. If the pilot were to go out with no safety feature, a very small (but still significant) amount of gas would start filling up your house. Then it explodes.
So, to prevent this there is a bimetallic valve on your pilot light. While the pilot is on, the strip is hot and it keeps the gas flowing to your oven. When the pilot goes out the strip cools down and it shuts the valve, cutting off the gas supply. So what you have to do is look for the pilot light, and find that strip. Hold a match or lighter under the valve until it opens and the pilot lights, and then it should be fine.
You might have to pull the bottom drawer out to get to the pilot. This is a picture of the valve with an arrow pointing to the device that needs to get hot:
