Set along the Des Moines River, Kilen Woods State Park provides visitors with a unique opportunity to hike, camp, canoe, fish, and birdwatch, all while making their way through some of our state's most beautiful natural habitats, including prairie, meadow, flood plain forest, and oak savvanah. There's even a bit of acheological history; the Jefferson Petroglyphs offer a glimpse into the lives of the indigenous people who inhabitted Southerm Minnesota nearly six thousand years ago.
The best trails in the park are those that run directly along the Des Moines River and forks through the meadow and prairie restoration project. In the Spring and Fall, look for some amazing wildflowers including Wild Bergamot, Prairie Blazing Star and many others.
Directions:
From the Twin Cities, head South on Interstate 35. About 100 Miles down, head West on Interstate 90. Exit on Highway 86 and Head North. About 4 miles after the town of Lakeville, you will come to County Road 24. Head East (right) and continue into the park.
