Led Light Sign?
I just have one of 4 feet wide Tri-colored LED Light Signs. It has two serial connectors, one of each, one of each. Can I make this work somehow? Smart software? Perhaps after a bit of solder?
The connectors are likely Serial connectors, but you may want to check the voltages on pins to be sure, sometimes TTL voltages (0 and 5 volts) are used for interfaces owners. Check Pins RXD and DSR from the GND pin and see if you are somewhere between 5 and 15 or between -5 and -15. Anyway, it is likely that RS232 Series. If yes, is – to connect to a serial port on the computer, run a terminal program (Hyperterm, TeraTerm, etc.) and press Enter both a key few. If you get garbled characters back, try changing the baud rate, start bits, parity and stop bits of setup terminal. I would try 9600, 8, N, 1 as the initial baud rate, start bits, parity, stop bits. If this fails, try reversing the baud rate of 4800, then 2400, then 1200. If you're lucky, 'll see a sort of menu signal sent to your terminal software through the serial link, and can reconfigure the signal through menu options. Otherwise, you should try to find the manufacturer and the model number for more information or to try a little reverse engineering. Very lucky!
