White Clover | Stillwater, MN |
White clover are probably the most recognizable and well-known of the clover family, and occasionally produce four-leave clovers some consider lucky. This small, non-obtrusive plant thrives in local parks, roadsides and lawns. It is actually a non-native species and can overtake disturbed soil in a matter of weeks. Spreading by way of above-ground stems, each individual plant, as it grows, roots into the ground. While it does compete with native grasses and ground plants, White Clover is an excellent forage crop, as deer, rabbits, and a number of butterflies are attracted to it. A bit of a mixed blessing.
