Often mistaken for the common dandelion, Goat's Beard is actually part of the Aster family. It is much taller than the Dandelion, and only opens its long, tapered head on sunny days, at which time the blooms will point themselves towards the sun (hence the nickname "Johny-Go-to-Bed-at-Noon", which it shares with other plants that only bloom during the day.)
Like the Common Dandelion, mature Goat's Beard produces a "puff-ball" of seeds. Also like the Common Dandelion, its roots can be dried and used as a coffee-substitute.
