With it bright yellow flowers with dark brown to black black heads, Black-eyed Susan is easy to recognize. It is a common, native flower that is a popular choice in Prairie Restoration projects, and is an excellent plant for native landscaping and gardening. It's easy to grow in well-drained soil in areas that get lots of sun.

Black-eyed Susan has a lot of wildlife value. It's a host plant for a variety of catterpillars and their seeds are a staple for a variety of finches and other birds. They are frequently seen along highways and in parks in the Summer and Fall. Farmers often employ these flowers near fields. It is believed that its hairy stems are hard for insects to scale.
