Perching Birds

Perching Birds | Woodpeckers and Creeping Birds | Raptors | Waterfowl | Shorebirds | Ground Birds

Perchings birds represent a broad category of birds, including year-round favorites like the Chickadee and Blue Jay, migratory songbirds like the Goldfinch and Robin, and large scavengers like the Common Crow. What do they all share in common besides feathers? They all share the same basic shape and posture. Most are predominantly herbivorous, though many eat insects during the summer, and others, like the Crow and Blue Jay, will raid the nests of other birds, eating eggs and hatchlings.
